Garlic Bread

Last night, after deciding to learn some Italian, I made an entire Italian food themed dinner for Adam and I.
For the first time ever, I decided to take it upon myself to spend in the hour and make my own garlic bread.

Ingredients:

A loaf of Ciabatta bread
1 stick of softened butter
1 clove of garlic, smashed & minced
A handful of parsley, chopped into tiny pieces
1 cup of parmesan cheese

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350.

Cut the bread in half horizontally. Mince and chop up the garlic and parsley. Mix well with butter in a bowl and spread it evenly all over the bread. Bake for 10 minutes on a LOW rack in the oven. Remove the bread from the oven, cover with parmesan cheese, and move the loaf to the highest rack in the oven (to melt the cheese).

*Be careful not to burn the bread.

Or, for those of you who are more visual (like yours truly), here are some pictures of what I did!

Betty Crocker's Apple Crisp

It is feeling a lot more like fall here and it is FINALLY starting to look like it! I saw my first foliage today. In honor of the new season, I decided to bake some apple crisp!

This was my first shot at even baking apple crisp, so I wanted to find a recipe rather than come up with one! It was very yummy and reminded me of the school lunch dessert I used to have as a girl (only better)!

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium tart cooking apples, sliced (4 cups)
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Cream or Ice cream, if desired

Directions:
  • 1Heat oven to 375ºF. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  • 2Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream until well mixed; sprinkle over apples.
  • 3Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with cream.

I took all of these pictures with my iPhone! Not bad, right?!

It's Been a While!

Last night and this morning were really the first times the two of us could just relax and unwind. I haven't done much experimenting with my baking, but I have had more time to cook real dinners which has been nice. As for desserts, the habit I have developed is just baking out of the box! Yuck! But seriously, these muffins made a  DELICIOUS breakfast for us. And normally I am not a fan of anything that comes out of a box. It is the Krusteaz's Cinnamon Crumb Cake mix.

As far as news goes, Adam just got a new job! Hooray! He likes it so far. I can imagine anything other than manual labor is likable. He has his own desk and working area (and he even has a name placard), which I will have to decorate a bit. I still haven't found the perfect "job," but I am having a blast with all of the freelance photography work I have been doing! We are healthy, happy, and just humbled to finally have some time to ourselves this weekend.
