This is the color scheme for our living room. I created this palette using the COLOURlovers site. This site is super easy to use (and I mean it's idiot proof!) This palette has come in handy for me when I have been out and about thrifting and find something I think will look nice in our room: I pull this up on my iPhone.
If it clashes I have two choices:
1) put it down and walk the other way
2) decide I can spray paint it to make it work
It really is super helpful! I mean, I like having signature pieces of furniture that work well together but aren't too matchy matchy. For instance, we have Pier 1 cheetah chairs at our desks and our black bookcases, shelves, and tv stand is from IKEA. Separately, you may think "hmm, I'm not sure if that works" but when you have the color palette with you, you can see that they do in fact work with one another quite nicely! I especially realized this with my white desk from IKEA. Black and white together is a given, but before I started using the color palette, I would have never through beige into the mix!
I hope you consider using a pre-conceived color palette before you go on a shopping spree, and that you find COLOURlovers as helpful as I have! If you happen to make an account I hope you follow my account so I can find yours & see what beautiful palettes you create!
Still not convinced you need to start creating color palettes? Well, you can find other uses other than home decor! If you're a photo lover and find a photo that catches your eye, you can make a color palette to expose which of the colors drew you in to it.
Love this photo I took? Check out my photography blog and download the free wallpaper!
OR If you're a blogger, make a color palette when you want to redesign your site!
It will give you some perspective on how the colors work together before hand, and you can see if it gives off the right vibe you are going for! I hope you found this helpful!
